The actor recently unveiled the first look of his upcoming movie “Taanaji” on Twitter where he will be seen playing the brave Maratha warrior Subedar Taanaji Malusare.
The last release of Ajay Devgan, “Shivaay” turned out to be a dud at the box office but he is all geared up for the historical drama “Taanaji: An Unsung Hero” that will see him playing the legendary Maratha warrior Subedar Taanaji Malusare. According to reports, Devgan tweeted the first look of the movie writing that Taanaji fought for his people, his soil and his king Shivaji. The 48-year-old actor shared the poster on his Twitter handle and it sees him dressed in a warrior outfit wielding a sword in his hand.
As fans may know, Subedar Taanaji Malusare was a close friend as well as a military assistant of Maratha king Shivaji. He is well-known for the Battle of Sinhagad that was fought in 1670 between Taanaji and Udaybhan Rathod on the fort of Kondana, located near Pune. It is said that he laid down his life fighting but managed to conquer the fort with the help of his pet monitor lizard that is also visible in the poster shared by Ajay Devgan.
It is said that the fort was renamed Sinhagad in the honor of Taanaji and there are a number of ballads in Marathi folklore that sing the heroic deeds of the legendary warrior. As for the movie, it is being directed by Om Raut who also directed the 2015 film “Lokmanya Ek Yugpurush.” Though the release date of “Taanaji: An Unsung Hero” is not confirmed it is speculated that the period drama will hit the theaters next year.
It is worth mentioning here that “Taanaji: An Unsung Hero” is the first-period drama film of Ajay Devgan and he has already expressed his excitement at being part of the project.
