Sanjay Leela Bhansali Defends ‘Padmavati,’ Blames False Rumors For Controversy
Some political and regional outfits have taken offense to the alleged portrayal of a romantic scene between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali posted a short video on social media yesterday clarifying the doubts surrounding his magnum opus and said that false rumors are responsible for the controversy around the movie.
Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has come up with a video on social media where he is seen clarifying his stand on “Padmavati.” In the video, he says that the period drama has become controversial due to false rumors and there is no truth in them. Praising Rani Padmavati, he explains that the fearless queen of Chittor has always been an inspiration for him and his film is a tribute to her sacrifice and bravery.
He also says that “Padmavati” is the outcome of hard work, sincerity and responsibility. Denying the rumors of a romantic sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, Bhansali states that he has already clarified about no such sequence being present in the film and affirms it once again. He signs off stating that the team has kept the honor and pride of the Rajputs in mind during the making of the film.
Notably, some political and regional outfits have taken offense to the alleged portrayal of a romantic scene between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji. They are demanding a pre-screening of the film before the release and have said that they would protest the screening if they find any distortion of facts in the movie.
Meanwhile, actor Arjun Kapoor has tweeted in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali. He wrote that the vision of the filmmaker should be respected as he is a fantastic director. He also lamented the attack on creativity and arts saying that it was sad to see propaganda and politics building an ugly environment.
Expressing his confidence in Bhansali, he tweeted that he was sure of a respectful portrayal of Rani Padmavati’s story in the film. As fans may know, the film fraternity has constantly supported Bhansali and his team, deriding the rumor mongers and protestors who have created hurdles for the filmmaker.
“Padmavati” is scheduled to release on Dec 1.
