Leading TV Producer And Co-owner Of SAB TV Gautam Adhikari No More, Dies Of Heart Attack
Gautam Adhikari was one of the pioneers of Marathi TV industry.
SAB TV co-owner and well-known television producer Gautam Adhikari passed away on Friday after a heart attack.
Gautam Adhikari, leading television producer and co-owner of SAB TV is no more. The 67-year-old producer passed away on Friday after a heart attack in the wee hours of the morning. He is survived by his wife and two children. His last rites will be performed today in Vile Parle. Earlier, Kanchan Adhikari, sister-in-law of Gautam Adhikari told the media that his brother-in-law was not well after his kidney transplant but he had been keeping well of late. Unfortunately, he got a serious heart attack on Friday and could not survive it.
Notably, Gautam Adhikari founded Shri Adhikari Brothers, one of the oldest television production houses, in 1985 with his brother Markand Adhikari. It was started as a small family partnership company and later went on to become one of the most successful production houses in the television industry. Initially, it produced only Marathi serials but after some years entered into the business of film distribution and production.
Shri Adhikari Brothers holds the distinction of being the first television production company that got listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange. It took place in 1995 and after some years the company also launched the famous TV channel SAB TV in 1999 which is popular for its comedy serial “Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma” and for its clean family-oriented content.
Gautam Adhikari was the whole time director and chairman of the SAB Group. Earlier he had also donned the hat of director and made serials like “Silsila,” “Hello Inspector” “Marshall,” “Waqt Ki Raftar,” “Commander” among others. In 1999, he was listed in the Limca Books of Records for directing the most number of episodes.
The TV audiences of the 90s are well-aware with the name Gautam Adhikari as he helmed many popular TV shows.
