The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to leave the Taj Mahal out of its tourism brochure and it has received severe backlash from the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi who has said that the UP CM is a useless ruler.
In a bizarre decision, the government of Uttar Pradesh, led by Yogi Adityanath has ignored the Taj Mahal, a monument of historic and cultural importance, in its tourism brochure. According to reports from the Firstpost, the epic monument is missing from the booklet “Uttar Pradesh Paryatan-Apaar Sambhavnayen,” published by the tourism department of the state.
Notably, the booklet was released a few days back on Sep 27 on the occasion of “World Tourism Day” to mark the six-month anniversary of the Yogi Adityanath government. Also, a few months ago, the Yogi government decided not to spend a penny on the monument from the budget allocated to them for preserving the cultural heritage of the state. Now that this major gaffe has come to the light, the opposition is targeting the state government saying that the decision reeks of communalism and bigotry.
According to The Times of India, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has targeted the UP CM through a tweet. He wrote that if one does not offer a candle to the sun, its glow does not diminish and then cited Bhartendu’s proverbial failed ruler and blind state example. Other opposition parties have also criticized the move.
Brinda Karat of the CPM has said that people will only laugh at Yogi for his ignorance of history and the importance of preserving Taj Mahal. Naresh Agrawal of Samajwadi Party also came down heavily on the UP CM accusing the BJP and the state government of ulterior motives and trying to give a new identity to the state.
It may be mentioned here that this decision of omitting the Taj Mahal shows the monumental discomfort that the Yogi Adityanath government has with the iconic structure. Some time back the CM had said that the Taj Mahal does not represent Indian culture.
